I wear several layers of clothing in the house so I can keep the thermostat at a lower temperature. Silk, wool, and blends with nylon, acrylic, or polyester are best.
100% cotton will insure that you are cold! Avoid 100% cotton in the winter if you are trying to conserve body heat.
I purchased a high-efficiency furnace which cut my fuel bill in half. I wear a fun hat and a silk neck scarf in the house. (A warm head helps keep the body warm.) At night the thermostat goes down to 56 degrees (meaning 52 in the bedroom), and I sleep under two down comforters.
